Barley Wedge, Cornell University Cooperative Extension

Lansing, New York

Barley Wedge consists of 3600 sf of barley planted in an abandoned section of an otherwise actively mined quarry.  The shale overburden was displaced to allow for soil to be trucked into the site.  In conjunction with Cornell University Cooperative Extension, a trial crop of different barley cultivars were grown in combination with various soil types to determine the most suitable plant and soil combination.  The Barley Wedge existed for one growing season.
