Potrero Hill

San Francisco, California

The house is nestled into a hillside overlooking the ports of San Francisco Bay.  The front area of the house is secluded and protected from the urban context by landforms and vegetation that obscure the view of the house from street level.  The gentle curves of the bench blend the woodland-like hillside with the gravel and cut bluestone patio below.  Boulders excavated during construction form an unobtrusive edge to the patio area.  The landscape was preserved and integrated into a house remodel constructed several years after the completion of the garden.
